Report: Matt Kemp & Dodgers talking 8 YR / $160M Extension Contract

Make it happen! I don't want to see a player like Matt Kemp leave or get traded like Mike Piazza.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweets that the Dodgers and Kemp are in serious discussions on a eight-year extension contract worth $160 million. {linked here}

Kemp has said that he would want to stay in Los Angeles and his agent Dave Stewart would want to get something done before Opening Day. It seems the Dodgers and Kemp are close to get a deal done soon. This would be great news since Kemp can hit the free-agency market next year and have teams like the Yankees and Red Sox over-bid for his services.

Get it done!

Fan asks Matt Kemp "Where are you playing in 2013?"

Matt Kemp having fun on Twitter today. {linked here}

People seem to be surprised when I don't go to a signing event. Seriously? :) How many autographs do I need from Matt Kemp? I'm good.

Here's a video of Kemp signing autographs earlier today at Frank & Son Collectible show. A fan asks him where is he playing in 2013.

Video -

Funny. Maybe his agent Dave Stewart needs to remind him that won't happen until we have "real owners".

Remember? Click here for that video.

I asked Matt Kemp's agent about contract situation. His shocking response

My brother-in-law is funny. He says "Don't post this video! What if Matt Kemp gets traded because the owner of the Dodgers saw your video".

He's just a kid.

Don't mess with Dave Stewart. As you already know, the former All-Star pitcher is now a agent. He represents a couple of Dodgers. He represents Chad Billingsley and Matt Kemp. Remember that Billingsley signed a long term contract with the Dodgers earlier this year.

As I mentioned in my earlier post this morning, Stewart was at Dodger Stadium chatting with Kemp and other officials from the Dodgers. {linked here} I apologize for posting this video late. I wasn't online earlier this afternoon.

While Stewart was signing autographs, I decided to ask Stewart when is Kemp going to sign that big contract.

Shocking response. Or maybe it's not shocking but it is still surprising.

Check out the video -

The conversation -

Me: Hey Dave, when is Matt Kemp signing that big contract?

Stewart: Soon as you get real owners.

Me: (Whispering)  Ohhh man.

Me: And when will that happen?

Stewart: That I cannot tell you.

* * * * *
I think Stewart caught me off-guard. I wasn't expecting that answer. Which is why I said "Ohhh man".

Have a nice career in New York or Boston Matt!

Recap: May 17 - Dodgers vs Brewers (Pictures)

I was worried about this game because of the rain. I was still going to go but honestly I thought about just going in and get the bobbleheads and leave. But I have a good excuse. My wife already passed 8 months and the baby should pop out soon. I just didn't want her to go through all that. It's not like I can take her back home since she works near Dodger Stadium. And we don't live near Chavez Ravine. But the sun came out! And it was a very nice day.

We did leave early. Super early! It's the earliest I have ever left for a game. 4th inning. It was getting cold and it started to rain. It wasn't bad but I was worried that it was going to get worst.

But it's all good. Pictures -

I turn around and see Matt Kemp talking to his agent Dave Stewart. I can imagine the conversation "Dave, can Frank McCourt give me that fat contract?" And Dave will just laugh and say "New York baby!".

IMG_6035

Back to Kershaw....

I'm trying to convince Kershaw to come over and sign our bobbles. We start chanting "Kershaw, Kershaw, Kershaw!"
IMG_6040IMG_6043IMG_6045

It didn't work.

Dave Stewart again. I bet it's a call to the New York area.

Big fan of Stewart. Great pitcher.

Thanks Dave! I have video of this encounter with Dave but I'm debating whether to post it or not....It's shocking. Well not shocking but at the same time it is.... A couple of fans around me told me to post it. My wife said "noooooo".

I think it's going to get posted. Look for it later.

Photo during the 4th inning. I was going to leave in the 3rd but wanted to wait for the Twitter contest that the Dodgers do every Tuesday. I kept refreshing my twitter feed. I get the question and I answer it right away! It was the correct answer by the way but I noticed I was about 4 minutes late. Phone reception at Dodger Stadium is not that great I guess.

42,138 fans showed up.
IMG_6079

We left. Heard the rest of the game on the radio. Did you know Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner rarely gives you the score? Hiroki Kuroda pitched a brilliant game and it was nice seeing Matt Kemp's 2 run bomb!

On our way out. Thousands of Bobbleheads sitting alone. I asked them if I can take a box. They ignored my question. How rude.

IMG_6080

Car of the month.
IMG_6081

Good times. I won't be able to make it to the Giants series so I'll see you in the next homestand.

Ex Dodgers To Help Open Baseball Academy In Nicaragua

Is Nicaragua the next Dominican Republic? Many scouts are saying Nicaragua has a great amount of talent. The problem is Nicaragua doesn't have Baseball academies like the Dominican Republic. That's going to change soon with the help of International Baseball Academy of Central America (IBACA).

With the exception of Nicaragua and Panama, Central America is a futbol continent. For some reason, Nicaragua and Panama have always played baseball. Costa Rica does have a National Baseball team but it's also considered to be more of a Soccer country.

Ex Dodgers Dave Stewart and Reggie Smith will serve in the IBACA board to help bring a Baseball academy in Nicaragua. Stewart is handling business side of things and Smith will serve as a coach.

From IBACA - {linked here}

The International Baseball Association will break ground on a training and tourism facility for the International Baseball Academy of Central America - Nicaragua (IBACA - Nica). Patterned on the highly successful baseball academies in the Dominican Republic, IBACA - Nica will identify and develop young talent with an eye toward winning US scholarships and building professional baseball careers. IBACA-Nica's parent company, International Baseball Association (a California corporation) also will establish a talent agency, under the direction of IBA/IBACA Board member Dave Stewart (a player agent, whose clients include Matt Kemp, Chad Billinsgley and Carlos Quentin). The agency will represent Nicaraguan players once they begin play in the minor leagues and beyond in the United States. This will provide a substantial secondary source of revenue for the company.

Video from IBACA -

Roberto Clemente JR. and current Dodgers pitcher Vicente Padilla is also on board.

From the Tico Times - {linked here}

When Roberto Clemente Jr., son of the legendary Hall of Famer who died in a plane crash while bringing relief aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua in 1972, first stepped onto the baseball field at the modest ballpark named after his father in Masaya, he had a ghostly flashback to his youth.

“Going to the stadium reminded me of going to the Sixto Escobar Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and I swear when I walked in and saw the base paths, I saw dad running the bases,” Clemente Jr., 45, told The Nica Times during a visit to Nicaragua this week. “It was a very special and weird feeling. It was very emotional for me, because he loved that stadium (in Puerto Rico). It was a special place for him and the people loved him and he loved them back. And that’s the way the whole thing started, and that’s how it ended.

And after a few days of visiting here, he didn’t need much convincing to rekindle his father’s legacy in Nicaragua. On Jan. 18, Clemente Jr. agreed to join the board of directors of the International Baseball Academy of Central America (IBACA), which is hoping to break ground in the coming months on Nicaragua’s first baseball academy. And Clemente went a step further, and got his friend, Nicaraguan Major League pitcher Vicente Padilla, to join the board also.

Reggie Smith in Nicaragua -

Why Nicaragua and not the other Central America countries? From Time.com {linked here}

Dave Stewart and Reggie Smith visited to announce that Nicaragua will be home to the International Baseball Association's first baseball academy in Central America. Smith, longtime player who has since coached Team USA baseball teams, said the association considered locations in Guatemala and Costa Rica but decided on Nicaragua because "here they have the passion and a natural talent for the game, and we won't be competing with soccer."

Other ex Dodgers in the IBACA board include Steve Sax and Jimmy Wynn.

Kemp is back!

The Dodgers swept the Giants and Matt Kemp is back in the lineup. He had three hits and three RBI's with a Home Run. Hopefully this is the end of any bad rift between Kemp and the Dodgers.

If Kemp was being benched because he was punished for disrespecting a Coach, then yes, I agree with the move. You just can't disrespect a coach. No matter what. If you are benching him because he's slumping, then I disagree.

It's always nice to sweep the Giants. Hopefully this is the start of something good.

    Ante Up For Autism

    Matt Kemp, centerfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers and spokesperson for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), returns for a second year to co-host “Ante Up For Autism”, a celebrity casino event which raised over $175,000 during last year’s inaugural event to help TACA fund educational programs and services for families affected by autism. Kemp will co-host the event alongside Dave Stewart, former pitcher for the Oakland A’s and World Series MVP.

    Taking place on March 6, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ, “Ante Up For Autism” is a celebrity-packed evening of cocktails, dinner and entertainment inside the Penske Racing Museum, which will be converted into a professional casino venue for the evening. This year’s confirmed celebrity guests include Danica Patrick (Indy 500), Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles), Ricky Henderson (Hall of Famer), David Justice (former MLB star), Torii Hunter (Anaheim Angels), Claudia Jordan (Sirius/XM “The Foxxhole”), Los Angeles Dodgers teammates James Loney, Russell Martin, Casey Blake, Chad Billingsley and other MLB players across the league.

    The professional poker stars that have signed on to participate in the event include Robert Williamson III, Tiffany Michelle a.k.a. “Hot Chips”, Maria Ho and Jamie Gold a.k.a. “The Poker Philanthropist”.

    “My little brother Carlton has autism and TACA has helped me and my family cope by providing us with a lot of information, support and resources,” says Matt Kemp. “I am honored to do my part in making a difference in the lives of others, and hope to continue an event like this for years to come.”

    Good Day for Dave Stewart

    Not only was it a good day for Chad Billingsley and Matt Kemp but it was a very productive day for Dave Stewart. Former Dodger Dave Stewart represents Kemp and Billingsley. Stewart was able to land deals for both of his clients. {linked here}

    Kemp received a two-year contract for $10.95 million. I like this deal. It avoids any drama if it had reached to a arbitration hearing. Plus the Dodgers locked him up for next year too. Nice.

    Billingsley signed on a one-year contract for $3.85 million. I'm hoping Billingsley can be ready mentally for the whole year and perform as a All-Star. Not just have first half success.

    Imagine having Stewart on the negotiating table with his stare. "Hey Colletti, Kemp wants this!"

    By the way, I read this story on Stewart last month and I forgot to post it. Stewart is among a group of players that are helping Nicaragua in building a Baseball Academy. Check out the story. Former Dodger, Reggie Smith is also helping. {linked here}
