Autographs: Skip Schumaker

Yesterday morning I posted this flyer. {linked here}

I decided to go and check it out myself.

It was grand opening of The Refinery Training Facility in Torrance with a special appearance by Skip Schumaker. It's 25,000 square foot of Baseball and Softball indoor training facility. This place is huge!

Schumaker was to speak to the little leaguers and parents to discuss his career and this new facility. I guess he is friends with the ownership.

He gave a great speech. Schumaker says he never was the best player on his team or the strongest. But he always worked hard to obtain his goals.

Schumaker was nice enough to stay and sign autographs for everyone in attendance. I got seven cards signed.

I wished him the best this season with the Dodgers.

I thought it was interesting that Schumaker wrote a bible verse on three out of the seven cards.

Proverbs 16:9 -

Which means -

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.

I know a few collectors get upset when athletes write a bible verse. I have a friend that got mad a few years ago when Adrian Gonzalez (When he was with the Padres) wrote a bible verse on his picture. I honestly don't care. As long as he is signing his name it doesn't really matter.

This event got better. Free lunch!

Inside the restroom. Really cool.

There was a silent auction.

Thanks to Skip Schumaker, The Refinery Training Facility, all the coaches, the hot dog vendor and all the nice people for this really great event.

Thanks to Ron and Erik for all their help.

Thanks to a few readers that said hello!

Great recap. Skip was cool, but I just barely got him. I literally just made it in as he was about to leave! Darn L.A. traffic! That's different that he put the verse on just 3 cards, he didn't put it on any of my 8 cards or the ball I got him on.

He put all his verse on all my 4 baseball but 3 off the have different player number. That was the only difference. Over all was a perfect day and Free food with beverages was just the frosting to finish the day.

Why would anyone get upset that Skip or Adrian put a Bible verse on a card or ball? That obviously is as important to them as their uniform number and they are the ones giving an autograph. Good for them.

Sounds like you guys had a great time there. Skip is a hard worker. I like those kinds of players because they aren't so up and down but just steady.

@ Alexander - Glad you made it!

@ Matt C. - Just read your post. You barely made it!

@ Bluenose Dodger - Trust me, people get upset. I can care less.
