Thoughts on Bobbleheads, Scully, Piazza, Valenzuela

Last Monday, the Dodgers announced that there will be a Vin Scully bobblehead this year. I wrote a quick post on it with the full schedule of the ten bobbleheads that will be given away. {linked here}

I didn't have time to comment on it so here it is....

I'm happy that Vin Scully has agreed to have his own bobblehead. For those that keep saying "Finally the Dodgers are doing a Scully bobblehead", you must know that it had nothing to do with the Dodgers. It was Scully that didn't wish to have one.

Tom Hoffarth of the Daily News was able to track down Scully. {linked here}

After of years of sidesteping requests to have his likeness cemented in bobblehead fame, Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully has agreed to be one of 10 bobblehead giveaway promotions that Dodgers will stage for the 2012 season, the team announced today.

The Scully bobblehead will come out on Thursday, Aug. 30, when the Dodgers face Arizona. Expect it to be listed as a sellout minutes after the single-game tickets go on sale. And if we're allowed to suggest: Make it in a way that it has one of Vin's call (the Gibson home run?) at the press of a button.

The Dodgers are using the series to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium.

"Since I won't be here for the 100th anniversary, I agreed to do the 50th," Scully said. "Otherwise, I would be open to questions as to why I didn't do it. It's far easier this way."

Thank you Vin!

I'm happy with the ten bobbleheads but would have been awesome if they did one for Mike Piazza. Maybe the Dodgers did try but Piazza rejected the idea? I don't know, just something to think about. Also, another Fernando Valenzuela bobblehead? I know he's popular among the Mexican community but do we really need another one?

I'm interested to find out how the dual bobbleheads will look. Maury Wills with Don Drysdale? Nice! That must be honor the 1962 team. With the other choices, I'm happy. I don't have a problem. Plus you got to be excited for the Sandy Koufax bobble.

Remember, you can purchase a mini-plan for these ten games. The cheapest plan would be for the Top Deck package where it starts at $80 bucks! {linked here}

Should be fun collecting these bobbleheads.

I wish Piazza would get over his Dodger hate. Yes, you got traded..But remember it was FOX that traded you, not the Dodgers!!It was the TV knuckleheads that traded you not the Dodger baseball people!! I wish he would realize the ones responsible for that dark day are gone and embrace his Dodger roots again.

I agree wholeheartedly on the Piazza Bobble. Some of the repeats could have been used to honor more greats.
