Vicente Padilla Will Undergo Surgery

Not good for the Dodgers. Vicente Padilla will undergo surgery tomorrow and is out indefinitely.

Dodgers pitcher Vicente Padilla will undergo surgery Thursday in Los Angeles to free a radial nerve entrapped by a muscle deep in the right forearm and will be out indefinitely.

Padilla will undergo the surgery at Kerlan-Jobe Clinic, and it will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The Dodgers would not give a timetable for his return to the mound.

The Dodgers won't say how long Padilla will be out until after the surgery. Tony Jackson of ESPN L.A. has more. {linked here}

Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said the team's medical staff preferred to wait until after the surgery before offering a prediction on how long Padilla is likely to be sidelined following the procedure, which should finally bring resolution to a problem that caused Padilla to spend two months on the disabled list early last season. But even a short-term recovery would set Padilla's spring-training program back sharply, especially since the Dodgers planned for him to at least begin the spring on a starter's program even though he likely would have begun the season in the bullpen.
