Jackie Robinson Bobblehead

Video:

I was going through all the stories that were out last week on Jackie Robinson and I remembered about a Bobblehead I bought many years ago.

The Dodgers have given out many great Bobbleheads. I remember a couple of years ago when I noticed the Dodgers were going to give away a Jackie Robinson figurine. I was disappointed that it wasn't a Bobblehead. I'm sorry that I don't have a link, I can't find it online, but I'm sure I read a couple of years ago that Jackie's daughter, Sharon Robinson was against a Bobblehead and that's the reason that the Dodgers gave away a figurine instead. I can be wrong, it might of been Jackie's wife, Rachel. But I have a feeling it was Sharon. If you have a link or can clarify this, please let me know.

Sorry for the bad memory. Another thing that I can't remember is when I bought this Bobblehead. I believe it was about 7 years ago. I can't even remember if I bought it online or at a Baseball Card Show. All I know is that it's a Bobblehead produced by "Sam's Baseball Bobbleheads" It's a limited edition and I have never seen other Bobbleheads of Jackie. The only one that I've seen is the one you see here.

One cool thing about this Bobblehead is that you can notice a big difference when you compare it to the other Bobbleheads. The Sam's collection Bobbleheads are a bit heavier and feel very fragile than the other Bobbleheads.

Have you seen other Jackie Robinson Bobbleheads besides that one?

Oh and one warning! If you go to eBay and search for "Jackie Robinson Bobblehead" items, you will see stuff that they claim it's a bobblehead! It's the figurine the Dodgers gave out a couple of years ago. Be aware! Don't get robbed.

I've never seen this. I've heard about bobbleheads that were made in the 1950's and I've been told there is a Jackie edition. But never seen a recent one like yours.

I want one. I wish the Dodgers would give away a Jackie and Vin Scully Bobblehead.

I remember an article a few years back where Jackie's widow Rachel stated that she never wanted to license a Jackie Robsinson bobblehead because it didn't fit his personality or reputation. She remarked that Jackie would never be the one to grin and nod in such a silly manner. By the way, Rachel controls all of the marketing and licensing of Jackie's image.

Yes! That's the article. Okay so I was wrong, it wasn't his daughter Sharon, it was Rachel!

Yeah that's what I read, she wouldn't agree to it because it would look weird in a Bobblehead. Thanks Jason.

Great Bobblehead. I remember these Bobbleheads were a big hit back in the 50's and 60's and now they are back, more popular than ever.

Roberto - that's an awsome bobblehead. It's one I'd love to have in my collection.

JJ24 is right, it was Rachel who refused to license the Jackie bobble. She didn't think it would fit his image. It's the same reason we may never see a Vin Scully bobblehead.
