Ramona Shelburne of the Daily News, who is covering for Tony Jackson for a few days, had this last night.
Right-hander Jason Schmidt pitched three innings in a minor league game against the Brewers. He gave up two runs and six hits, and struck out two.
"Schmidt was OK, he got his work in," Torre said. "It's a process. He looked like he was pushing it a little bit, but he had no problems physically."
Asked whether he had decided where Schmidt, who is coming off two shoulder surgeries, would start the season, Torre said, "I don't think he's done enough pitching. I don't know, we'll have to wait.
"Since we don't necessarily have to make that decision right now, we'll wait as long as we can before we have to. But I still think it's going to be a little ways for him."Should they go the Andruw Jones route ? Just release him now and give the kids (James McDonald anyone?) a chance ! Admit it Ned, you blew it on this one too....
By the way, Ramona is a doing a good job in updating Jackson's blog. Great stuff.
