What's up ! Good times at Canter's Deli. As a kid, my Dad would take me to Canter's. So I was familiar with the area. I went solo again since my Wife had to study at school. Showed up late. I got there around 12:45 pm The parking lot was full so I had to park a couple of blocks away. While walking towards Canter's, I noticed the big Dodger bus coming. I guess they got there late too. Ran towards the Deli and walked in. The whole place was packed. Full of Dodger fans. I walked around to see if I recognize anyone. I didn't. So I walked outside and noticed the Dodgers were walking and coming.
I went back in and sat at the bar. Well I think it's a bar. I wasn't seating at a table. Russell Martin came in and right away walked towards every table to say hello and sign autographs. I was hoping that he would come up to me. I got a Martin Bobblehead out of my backpack. Got a silver sharpie ready. Then a waiter asked me "What do you want to drink ?" I said "Give me a Tecate" and she said "What's that ?" and I replied "Mexican Beer" She looked at me funny and said "We got Jewish beer, a Shmaltz" I politely declined. Martin came towards me and the "Gordo" security guard was behind him. I said "Hi Russell, how are you ?" and gave him a Bobblehead for him to sign. Martin replied "I'm doing good man, thanks for coming" Gave the camera to a kid who was behind him and asked him for a pix.
The other players went to different areas of the Restaurant. I got up and walked towards another side of the building and noticed a couple of people that I recognize. I sat with a friend. I saw James Loney standing and signing autographs to anyone that comes up to him.
Raymond asking Loney "40 bombs this year?" lol
So I did the same thing. I gave him a Dodger magazine that has Eric Karros and Loney on the cover. It was from last year. Karros already signed it. I needed Loney. Got it and walked around looking for Mark Loretta. I found him and gave him a ball. I welcomed him to L.A.
Overall it was a good day. Better than yesterday since I didn't have to wait outside in the sun for 7 hours. Everything went smooth and the players were nice enough to chat for a while. I want to thank the Dodgers and Canter's for putting this event together. 2 More picures. A Babe Ruth and Ted Williams picture that was inside the building.
A painting from outside the building. Sandy Koufax !
